Building small apps to do repeat work for you, fast
Axiom is where we build our small apps, or servlets, to perform complex tasks for clients to save them lots of time. These are not AI agents, but full code-based solutions.
What Axiom does
Axiom can do lots of things, so let's start with just one example. A small testing lab in London asked us to help them schedule several templated events into their calendar. Each was complex and each was very different from the others.
Spec the solutions
The first task is always to understand the issue and how it is affecting the workflow, time, staff and customers.
Run the logic test
Can it be built? Is it viable? Will it pay for itself (time, hassle, satisfaction)? And how long will it take to build out?
Prepare for the build
Check the logic, check the parameters. Check them again. Ask more questions — there are always more questions.
Build it
The build time can vary, quite a lot, depending on the complexity of the work. Often it is an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) to be taken as a POC (Proof of Concept) by the client.
Test it. Test it again.
Theory and practice don't always match up, so we insist on rigorous testing, ideally in the field (or office).
Sign off
It sounds obvious, but this is essential. The client has to sign off work before it is completed or handed over.
Training
We provide training with all of our software solutions, no matter their size. It can take time up front, but will save time long term.
Support
We offer annual maintenance at 20% of the initial licence fee and this covers all technical support. Functional support is charged for.

Cutting time per call from 15 mins to 3 seconds
The client wanted to know how they could 'drop new events' into their schedule, which was already busy. They had 5 complex templates of work to drop in, each comprising multiple events, each of a different duration and with one, or more, staff members.
We chose to run this in Axiom and built out a fully tested proof of concept, with integration direct to Visual Planning, to allow them to schedule and see who was doing what, where and when.
They moved from it taking approximately 10–15 minutes on each call to it now taking less than 3 seconds per call to see if the treatment would fit in the planner — and that included giving them a selection of dates and times to choose from.

Where Axiom is used
Different sectors, one underlying question: is there a faster, easier way to achieve these results? And will it save us money, operate better, or remove a dull role?
Common questions
- Is Axiom the same as Select?
- No. Axiom is the tool used to perform the work; Select is the route the work takes. Axiom is custom made. Select is pretty well fixed.
- Can Apex and Axiom be used separately?
- Yes. They can both be taken on day one, or Axiom can be added at any stage. Axiom can also be run with other third-party apps, like Visual Planning, HR platforms and LMS platforms.
- How are electronic signatures handled?
- Signatures are captured against an authenticated user with the time, the record version and the meaning of the signature, and they cannot be reassigned after the fact.
- What about staff who move between sites?
- Competency belongs to the person, not the site. Multi-site organisations see one record per individual with the site-specific authorisations layered on top.
